Business Success – Is Being Wrong Holding You Back?

In looking at what is holding people back, a common theme appeared. Worrying about being seen as wrong. It is scary to open up and just put our ideas out there. As children, if those ideas weren’t what our parents/teachers wanted to hear, not only were we not celebrated for our creativity, but often shamed and even ostracized instead. Fear of not being liked, not being accepted for who we are, just as we are, got engrained in our young psyches.

People Pleasing

People pleasing, not making waves, became the norm for many of us. We felt we had to compromise what we felt and parrot what would keep the peace. Little by little, we shut down our innate creative, inventive abilities. People pleasing may keep the peace, but it takes its toll on us. Our joy factor is effected as we don’t express all of who we are. We not only cheat ourselves by not sharing who we really are, but also those around us.

For many, physical health can even be effected. If we keep holding back how we really feel and keep ourselves from sharing our view points, energy can get stuck in the body. An example of  how this stuck energy can show up is as a thyroid  problem. The thyroid is in the throat area.  As several of my female clients who were not speaking up for themselves gained greater self-confidence and began speaking up and appropriately letting people know the truth of how the felt, their thyroids began to heal.

Coping with stuffing how we really feel can show up as over eating and weight gain. As we compromise our beliefs, we shove down our feelings with food. Imagine if we just allowed our thoughts to be expressed. By releasing our control around our fear of being seen as wrong, we can release weight simply and easily. We won’t be weighed down by all we holding back.

Loosing Big Money

As an employee, your company is paying you for your ideas, your ability to come up with solutions, your opinion that will take them forward to greater profit. People pleasing rather than sharing your thoughts and ideas can be costing your company money – big money. I remember a client saying that he knew that the way a committee had decided to do a project was not going work, but he never said anything. He was afraid of  taking a stand for his solution. Low and behold, he was right and it cost the company hundreds of thousands of dollars.

3 Tips for Greater Business Success

  • Take the Chance of Being Wrong As Long as You are Right for You

The key is to be right for YOU. Remember: What other people think of you, is none of your business. When you know that what you have to share is right for you, you now have you backing you up. Having you be there for you is powerful. As you trust yourself more and more, you will unlock your potential as a creative person. Share what is right for you and all will be right with the world.

  • Authentic is Where the Sales are Made

Being present to the possibility that allowing yourself to be wrong is where you can access your open heartedness and tap into your charm. Just openly sharing your ideas and thoughts, being real in the moment is about being authentic. Authentic is what customers are looking for.

  • Let the Chips Fall Where They May

It could be your own company or the one you work for, but either way share your ideas! Don’t hold back your solutions. Speak your truth and let the chips fall where they may. When my client I mentioned above began to speak up, three very important things happened. One: the company’s profits grew. Two: he began to be turned to for answers. Three: more and more colleagues befriended him. He went from feeling isolated and alone at work to having meaningful interactions and friends to enjoy activities with after work.

Speak up. Share yourself fully. Enjoy you being you.

Business Success – Dad’s Words of Wisdom

With Father’s Day coming up, I remembering my dad encouraging me to live life full out. Although my dad died when I was just 25, I still remember him saying, ”Marty, don’t live a half-assed life. Give it your all. Be proud of your work and you will be proud of who you are.”

Dad was right. I wish I had had more time with him so he could have taught me what he really meant. I thought he wanted me to work hard, long hours, day in and day out, like he did. But I have discovered that is not what he meant.  It is not about working hard. It is about making a commitment to ourselves, playing full out and doing the hard stuff that brings business success.

You Can’t Cheat Life

What it comes down to is, “You can’t cheat Life.” Life demands that we play full out. Have you noticed that what we avoid doing, what you resist delving into, what or who you want to just go away and never bother us again, keeps showing up?  It is like living in the Ground Hog Day movie where the lesson is repeated and repeated until we get it. It is when we can breakthrough that resistance, dig in and live whole-assed that the big rewards come.

3 Top Tips to Live a Whole-Assed Life

  • Step One – Slow Down to Speed Up

There are days that I am going non-stop. When I ask myself what do I need to do and hear that wise inner voice whisper, “Slow down to speed up,”  I think, “Oh, no. Tell me anything but to stop.” Somewhere I know that when I stop, I’ll see I am going nowhere fast!  I am running harder and harder to avoid doing the very thing that needs doing. Many I have spoken to agree. They realize they, too, get really busy procrastinating so they don’t have to do the task that they don’t want to do. First step, is to stop so you can determine what is holding you back.

  • Step Two – Look Resistance  Square in the Face

What area of you life that if you changed, would bring you the greatest rewards? To figure that out, just think of the thing you want to do or say the least. Is it marketing your business, is it exercising, is it standing up to your boss or wife/husband, is it giving yourself a break and being kinder and gentler to yourself? Step two is identifying where you have your greatest resistance. It is breakingthrough there that you will reap your greatest reward.

  • Step Three – TAG Yourself for Success™

Let’s say for demonstration purposes that in your business, your resistance is in doing consistent marketing. Somewhere you know that Facebook, article writing, the daily commitment to getting your name out there is where you secretly feel insecure. In fact, on the days that you are running the hardest, it is really to cover up how inadequate you are feeling about your marketing efforts. You are doing everything BUT marketing. You don’t want to feel not good enough.

This is where knowing how Talented, Able and Gifted  (TAG) you are comes in handy. Your TAGs – Talents, Abilities and Gifts are  what let you know that you have what it takes to break through your resistance.

  • Your Ability is what you can do naturally. You just came into this world knowing how to do it.  Like Mozart was creative at four years old, you might be analytical, mathematical, creative, inventive.
  • Your Talent is what you do, how you express your Ability. Like Mozart expressed his creativity early by playing the piano, you might be an organizer, computer programmer, great cook, a game designer.
  • Your gift is how you share your Talent and Ability with the world. Like Mozart performed, wrote concertos, operas, sonatas, you might make people’s homes look lovely, have customers signing your praises with programs that work easily, delighting the family with a delicious meal, entertaining children.

Using your awareness of  where your Talents, Abilities and Gifts lie, you can see which ability you could use to begin to develop your marketing skills. Your creativity could be developed by taking a blog writing course. Your talent at making the complex simple might help you learn how to SEO your website. Your gift of helping people feel healthier can now reach more of your target audience. Step three is feeling more secure in your knowledge and skills by developing your TAGs. You will breakthrough your resistance to marketing and be making more money in less time.

Align with Your Resistance

Living a whole-assed life is about committing to actualizing all of who you are. Being consistent in your effort by doing things on a daily basis, you will reap the greatest rewards. Your resistance showed up to actually awaken you to exactly where you need to put your efforts to have what you want. Align with your resistance. Embrace where it is telling you to grow and develop. Have fun discovering more of you!

Life Wants You to Win

If you don’t take the time to live a whole-assed life, well, life will bite you in the half you are using. You will get a wake up call, sometimes it comes as illness, others times as being fired, other times your business sits stalled and struggling. These are to wake you up to your potential. Put those two halves together. Give 100% to everything you do one step at a time. Life wants us to experience life fully, that’s why it won’t let us cheat. Life wants us to WIN.
